House Steward Apprenticeship
A one year house steward apprenticeship is offered at New Community Project's sustainable living center in Harrisonburg VA. Live and work in solidarity with people struggling from homelessness and abuse. Learn and join in the work of living more sustainable with the earth and more justly with its people.
Duties include; oversight of residents in our hospitality house, organize house events and schedules, accounting and budgeting, office management. Skills needed; Maturity, organizational skills, sense of humor, listening and interpersonal skills, desire to live in community, commitment to ecological and justice issues. Previous experience with people struggling with homelessness preferred.
Benefits include: Room and board, $100 monthly stipend, mentorship, two field trips related to apprenticeship topics, new friendships and community, work on exciting and creative projects that make a difference.
Sustainable Building Apprenticeship
A one year Sustainable Building apprenticeship is offered at New Community Project's sustainable living center in Harrisonburg VA. This apprenticeship will focus on designing and implementing sustainable building projects at our site. Apprentice will work alongside men and women coming off of homelessness or refugees from Burma and Eritrea.
Projects may include; bamboo solar shower, bicycle powered washing machine, cob construction, solar energy, root cellar construction, outdoor kitchen construction with recycled materials, non electric refrigeration system, etc. Apprentice will have a chance to add their own ideas and creative process. Apprentice will also be involved in the community life at NCP.

Project Incubator Apprenticeship
This unique apprenticeship offered by New Community Project in Harrisonburg VA, is designed to give the student a chance to accompany and learn how to start sustainable development projects in the broader community that make a difference. Apprentice will learn community organizing skills, basic permaculture principles and design, learn asset-based development.
Apprentice will choose a community project under the guidance of NCP staff and design and implement it over the year. Possible projects may include; Neighborhood Orchards Program, Peddlers Produce, Greater Bike/Ped Greenways, Youth Peace Team, Tool Lending Library, etc. Apprentice will also be involved in the community life at NCP. Skills needed; interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skill, self motivation, project follow-through despite setbacks, sense of humor, ability to work with diverse groups, Spanish helpful though not required.
